The Burlingame Historical Preservation Society was organized in April of 2001. A seven member board was selected. The goal of this board was to raise the funds to purchase the old Schuyler school building and reopen it as a community museum.. This was soon achieved and on October 1, 2001 ownership of the property was acquired by BHPS. The next goal was to open the museum on the 100th anniversary year of the school, 2002. The grand opening of the Burlingame Schuyler Museum was held June 22, 2002.

Many items on display have been donated or are on loan from our local citizens.
Maynard Smith of Scranton, Kansas is a celebrity in his own right. His wonderful iron works and collections of classic cars and other notables can be viewed by appointment at his home, a museum, of sorts in itself!
